Mercedes Schlapp has no easy task in her position as White House adviser for strategic communication. It's not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to be the advisor to strategic communications for the White House. Schlapp was focused throughout the process, working closely alongside the White House's committees for political and legislative affairs, policy shops, and larger communications teams to oversee policy implementation. In her current position she's been focusing on several concerns, such as school safety as well as opioid abuse. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists much in her current role. It was in March that she gained a sudden burst interest when it was public that her name was going to be considered a possible candidate to take over Hope Hicks's position as director of communications. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job in her role as White House's advisor on strategic communications. The White House strategic communications adviser must deal numerous legal issues that may affect the communications policy of the administration and Cabinet secretaries who are involved in scandals of their own. However, throughout it all Schlapp has stayed focused on the mission at hand, working closely with the White House's political and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as well in the communications department in order to oversee policy implementations. So far, her focus has been on issues like school safety, opioids and infrastructure, and trade. Her current work doesn't have much contact with reporters. However, she attracted a lot of attention in March when her name was floated as a potential replacement Hope Hicks as communications director. The battle has been bitter. The allies of Schlapp as well as Tony Sayegh who is one of the other candidates for the post have been fighting over the media. Following The Washington Examiner published a negative report on Sayegh Schlapp stated that she called the candidate to be heart to heart.
